The Penlink Service
The digital pen remembers everything you write when you
are away from your PC. In addition to a regular ink cartridge,
it includes an optical sensor that captures your words and
drawings. A built-in processor digitises your handwriting,
storing up to 40 pages in memory between downloads. Based
on functionality from Anoto, the digital pen encodes on
the basis of microscopic dots printed on the paper. Since
it always knows exactly where you are, you can even accurately
edit the original page at a later time.
The
Penlink Pen
Physically, the pen can write like any other pen. However,
when it is activated, the handwritten information is captured
via a built in camera, processed and stored within the internal
memory.
The memory unit can hold up to 100 Mb’s
of data which equates to approximately 40 A4 pages. To activate
the Penlink function the pen needs to be used in conjunction
with specialised Anoto patterned paper.
The
Paper
The Anoto patterned paper is manufactured with a unique
arrangement of dots allowing it to correctly locate the
position of writing. This allows the pen to capture movement
and “read” the pen strokes with remarkable accuracy.
The paper can be produced by a number of companies and
the printing can be tailored to a businesses individual
requirements; for instance, business letterhead, order forms,
fact finding sheets, service applications and/or contracts,
in any shape or size.
How it works together
Once the information is stored within the memory and ready
to be transmitted, simply tick the ‘Send’ box
to activate the transfer. The encrypted information is sent
through the Blue tooth transceiver to a predetermined certified
phone.
The phone acts as a relay device and sends all information
via the GPRS network (Telstra, Optus or Vodafone) to the
designated email address or system in a predetermined format
(pdf, tif etc.).
Security
OBT works to provide a secure end-to-end service. From the
moment the information leaves the Penlink device it uses
128-bit symmetric key encryption until it arrives in the
predetermined system location. OBT has the ability to lock
down the email address and deactivate the pen immediately
if misplaced or stolen.
When used in conjunction with the OBT hosting service,
email to full desktop, information is protected, backed
up and kept safe from hackers & viruses in line with
government and ASIC requirements.
